RI State Fire Marshal - Guidelines The State of Rhode Island requires compliance with the new fire code before a property is conveyed for sale. It is the seller's responsibility to ensure that all smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors are installed properly and that a certification from the town fire marshal is given. A seller should have this prior to closing. Important - you will need to have a money order made out to the town Fire Department, for example, Providence Fire Department, or Pawtucket Fire Department. As of now, this charge is $30. If the home fails the inspection, the seller must arrange another visit and pay an additional $30 until the house passes inspection. Here are a few numbers for the departments of Fire Prevention to schedule an inspection: - Providence Fire Prevention - 401-243-6050
- Pawtucket Fire Prevention - 401-725-2331
If you wish a consultant to assist you with installation and guidelines, Rik Hague is a firefighter in Providence who will help you with this for a fee prior to your meeting with the fire marshal. His phone number is 401-741-4484 and his email is smokes799@cox.net. If you are not very handy or adept at following the guidelines provided below, we would highly recommend calling him. It makes passing the inspection so much easier! Click on Link Below for How to Install the Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors:
